Journey Through Time and Flavor: A Stroll in Nakatsugawa-juku with Japanese Tea and Seasonal Sweets
Discover Nakatsugawa-juku, one of the historic post towns along the Nakasendo, on a guided walking tour that transports you back to the Edo period—when travelers, merchants, and pilgrims journeyed between Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto. Along this ancient route, the beloved countryside sweet Kurikinton was born. Later commercialized in the Meiji era, it became the signature confection of Nakatsugawa.
Enjoy a refreshing break at Ichikawa-seicha, where you can savor locally made Kurikinton paired with a selection of premium Japanese teas. The experience concludes with a visit to traditional wagashi shops, guided by our “Wagashi Navigator,” Mr. Ichikawa.
Walk through history, taste regional specialties, and experience Nakatsugawa’s culinary heritage just as travelers once did along the Nakasendo.
